Hello! Please, feel free to look into the different sections of this website (‘Publications’, ‘Posts’, ‘Projects’, etc.)…

These pictures correspond to the cities where I have done research in my career (Santiago, Chile -left up-, Bristol, UK -left down- and Sheffield, UK -right-)...

Welcome to my academic website!

I have finally updated my academic website (21/12/2023)! Please, let me invite you to explore it… I created this website to broadcast the research that I have done in my career so far and to look for potential collaborations (yes, please, feel free to contact me in case you realise that we have compatible research interests). Additionally, you will also find some information about myself here… Thank you in advance for expressing your interest in this online platform!

Greetings from Sheffield, UK! Respectfully,

Dr Carlos Muñoz-Neira, Postdoctoral Research Associate, Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN), Division of Neuroscience, School of Medicine and Population Health, Faculty of Health, University of Sheffield

Neural correlates of altered insight in frontotemporal dementia

Neural correlates of altered insight in frontotemporal dementia

Altered insight seems to be conceptually and neuroanatomically fractionated in this frontotemporal dementia

Dr Carlos Muñoz-Neira

Postdoctoral Research Associate, University of Sheffield

Biography

I am a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN), Division of Neuroscience, School of Medicine and Population Health, Faculty of Health, University of Sheffield, UK.

Before moving to England, I worked as a Neuropsychologist at the Neurology Department of Hospital del Salvador in Santiago, Chile, a renowned public hospital led by the Faculty of Medicine of Universidad de Chile. I was in charge of conducting neuropsychological assessments on patients with different forms of dementia and other diverse neuropsychiatric disorders at this place. Also, my role included aiding dementia carers to cope with the potential burden associated with their daily life activities. I managed to combine both clinical and research work in such a position by publishing, either as first author or co-author, several neuropsychological/behavioural studies conducted with cohorts of patients with mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer’s disease, frontotemporal dementia, and cognitively healthy controls, among others. My doctoral studies were focused on investigating the neural correlates of altered insight in frontotemporal dementia.

Whilst most of my work has been devoted to the validation of neuropsychological tests for the Spanish-speaking Chilean population so far, I am currently moving to increase my knowledge on diverse approaches to assessing different neuropsychological functions in patients with dementia. Moreover, I am also learning diverse brain imaging analyses techniques at the moment.

I hold a PhD degree in Translational Health Sciences and a Master of Science degree in Neuropsychology from the University of Bristol. In addition, I am a Clinical Psychologist graduated from Universidad de Chile.
