Late-onset Cinephilia and Compulsive Behaviors, Harbingers of Frontotemporal Dementia

Abstract

Have you ever encountered an elderly patient who developed new, excessively intense interests or compulsive behaviours? Have you ever wondered what might cause such behavioural changes or been perplexed at how to help patients with obsessive thoughts or compulsions? If you have, then the following case vignette of an elderly man who developed progressive compulsive cinephilia (involving obsessions and compulsions with the cinema) and discussion should facilitate the diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of patients with similar symptoms.
